Biden Strongly Condemns Hamas ‘Terror and Bloodshed’, Pledges Support for Israel

President Biden addresses Israel-Hamas war: We stand with Israel

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden strongly condemned the recent attacks by Hamas and expressed solidarity with Israel. He affirmed that the United States views these attacks as acts of terrorism.

“There are moments in this life when pure evil is unleashed on the world. The people of Israel have endured one such moment this weekend,” Biden stated.

“What happened in Israel was an act of sheer evil: Over 1,000 civilians brutally murdered. Among the victims were at least 14 American citizens,” he added.

Hamas launched a surprise land, air, and sea assault on Israeli civilians, triggering retaliatory airstrikes throughout the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Hamas’ attack on Israel as “a terrible mistake” and warned that the retaliatory strikes were only the beginning.

Biden compared the brutality and bloodthirstiness of Hamas to the worst acts committed by ISIS, unequivocally labeling it as terrorism. He acknowledged that this is not a new tragedy for the Jewish people.

The death toll from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 1,800, with over 1,000 fatalities and 2,700 injuries in Israel, and at least 830 deaths and 4,250 injuries in Gaza, according to Palestinian and Israeli health services.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris held discussions with Netanyahu to establish coordinated efforts in providing support to Israel during this crisis. Biden has been actively engaging in internal meetings and calls with U.S. and international officials, advocating for “urgent action” from Congress upon its return.

During his address from the White House, Biden confirmed that Americans are among the hostages being held by Hamas. He condemned Hamas’ threat to execute these hostages, stating it violates every code of human morality.

Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., U.K., and the European Union. In a joint statement, the U.S., along with France, Germany, Italy, and the U.K., condemned the group and its “appalling acts of terror,” reaffirming their support for Israel.

Biden reiterated this stance in his speech, firmly stating that the United States stands with Israel. He emphasized that terrorism cannot be justified and that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination.

“Hamas offers nothing but terror and bloodshed without regard for those who suffer the consequences,” Biden declared. “The loss of innocent lives is truly heartbreaking. As a nation, Israel has the right and the responsibility to respond to these vicious attacks.”

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that the U.S. will provide assistance to Israel, including munitions. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby announced that the initial aid had already been dispatched.

“We are urgently supplying additional military systems, including ammunition and interceptors, to replenish Iron Dome,” Biden assured. “We will ensure that Israel does not run out of these critical assets to protect its cities and citizens.”

Biden also mentioned that the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are working with state and local law enforcement to identify and address any potential domestic threats arising from the Middle East attacks. He urged all Americans to denounce hatred.

“In this moment, the United States must stand together in solidarity with those who are grieving. Let us be clear: Hate has no place in America – not against Jews, Muslims, or anyone else. Terrorism is what we reject,” Biden concluded.
