President Joe Biden speaks about the government’s COVID-19 response, in the South Court Auditorium in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House Campus in Washington, Jan. 13, 2022. President Joe Biden has gotten the updated COVID-19 vaccine and annual flu shot, the White House said Saturday, Sept. 23.

WASHINGTON >> President Joe Biden has received the updated COVID-19 vaccine and the annual flu shot, according to the White House.

In a memo, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the White House physician, stated that Biden received both shots on Friday. O’Connor also mentioned that Biden, 80, had been vaccinated against RSV, a respiratory illness, several weeks ago.

“As we enter the cold and flu season, the President encourages all Americans to follow his example and consult their healthcare provider or pharmacist to ensure they are fully vaccinated,” O’Connor wrote.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently endorsed the new COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged 6 months and older. Although the severity of the pandemic has diminished, the United States still experiences thousands of hospitalizations and hundreds of deaths each week.

Health experts are concerned that immunity from previous vaccinations and infections may be waning in many individuals, and a new vaccine could save numerous lives.

Earlier this month, first lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19 but only exhibited mild symptoms.

According to the CDC, individuals who have COVID-19 and are in isolation should wait until their symptoms have disappeared and they have met the isolation guidelines before getting vaccinated. Children and adults with multisystem inflammatory syndrome should wait until they have recovered from their illness and 90 days have passed since their diagnosis.

Biden tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2022 and again just over three days after being cleared to end his coronavirus isolation. The second incident was a rare case of a “rebound” infection following treatment with an antiviral drug.
