Biden Administration Faces Worsening Migrant Crisis in New York

As civic leaders of New York joined the chorus of Democratic politicians criticizing the federal government’s lack of assistance during the migrant crisis, the Biden administration added insult to injury. In letters addressed to Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul, Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas displayed an astonishing level of arrogance by offering no tangible assistance and instead offering advice from the sidelines. He condescendingly stated that the DHS enforcement team had developed numerous recommendations to strengthen the city’s migrant operations, as if lecturing on how to correct their mistakes. Furthermore, Mayorkas boasted about their supposed accomplishments, such as granting access to a hangar at JFK Airport to house a mere 800 migrants. This trivial effort does not even begin to address the magnitude of the influx. Mayorkas’ audacity surpasses his failure to fulfill his empty promise of appointing a DHS liaison to take action. How dare he point out our faults when he himself is neglecting his duty to secure and protect our borders! Recent reports by The Post revealed that Mayorkas’ subordinates intentionally left 114 floodgates in the border barriers open, allowing an average of 1,400 migrants to enter daily. While it is evident that Mayorkas is merely following in line with his boss, President Joe Biden, who welcomed millions of migrants and subsequently released them into the nation, the city and state share some of the blame. Neither Hochul nor Adams have had the courage to challenge the flawed “right to shelter” concept or denounce Biden and Mayorkas’ betrayal of their oaths of office. However, the mayor is facing a staggering bill of $4.3 billion to cover the costs of migrants over two years, not to mention the economic losses as hotels, which could be accommodating tourists and boosting the economy, are instead occupied by taxpayer-funded asylum seekers. The governor, on the other hand, is desperate to prevent this crisis from spreading to suburban and upstate areas. Meanwhile, every potential site for a new shelter proposed by Adams has been met with protests, some escalating into violence. As city business leaders have pointed out, the situation is overwhelming the resources of city and state governments nationwide. They urgently call for immediate action to regain control of the border and request the relief that Adams and Hochul have been seeking, all of which appears to be unattainable. How much more damage must Biden and Mayorkas cause before Democrats in the Empire State rise up in revolt?
