Bichette Relocated to Jays’ 10-Day Injured List

Paul DeJong is thrilled to assume the role of the Toronto Blue Jays’ new shortstop, although the duration of his time in that position remains uncertain.

DeJong was named the Blue Jays’ shortstop for the game against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, following his trade from the St. Louis Cardinals. He has taken on the responsibilities after all-star shortstop Bo Bichette was placed on the Blue Jays’ 10-day injured list earlier in the day.

Sitting in the home dugout after batting practice at Rogers Centre, DeJong expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play shortstop. He understands that there may be changes in the coming weeks, but he is excited to make an impact and be himself.

Bichette received an official diagnosis of right patella tendinitis after injuring his knee while running the basepaths on Monday. Manager John Schneider revealed that the Blue Jays are taking Bichette’s recovery day by day.

“We’ll know more tomorrow, the next day, the next day after that,” explained Schneider. “It all depends on how he responds to the treatments we have planned for him.”

Bichette, a two-time all-star, currently leads the Toronto team with a .321 batting average and 17 home runs this season. He boasts the highest average in the American League and the fourth-best average in Major League Baseball.
