TORONTO – Bo Bichette is back in the Blue Jays lineup, and he firmly believes that Toronto still has a shot at making the playoffs, despite the loss of catcher Danny Jansen for the remainder of the regular season.
Bichette has been reinstated from the Blue Jays’ 10-day injured list and has returned as the team’s shortstop for Friday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. The talented all-star has been sidelined since Aug. 27 due to a strained right quadriceps muscle.
Heading into the game, the Blue Jays held the third and final wild card spot in the American League, half a game ahead of the Texas Rangers.
“I’ve always had complete confidence in this group,” Bichette said from the home dugout at Rogers Centre. “This is the moment that will define us.
“Everything that has happened up to this point doesn’t matter. It’s all about the present, and we will find out what we are made of.”
Bichette’s return couldn’t come at a better time, as Toronto embarks on a crucial 10-game homestand, including a four-game series against the Rangers starting on Monday. The Blue Jays are currently two games behind the Seattle Mariners for the second wild-card spot.
