Bernie Sanders defends Biden, his fellow octogenarian: ‘I saw no issues’

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, at 81 years old, has come to the defense of President Joe Biden, who is 80 years old, against criticisms that he lacks the energy and vigor to effectively lead the United States. In an interview with NBC News’ Chuck Todd on “Meet The Press,” Sanders shared his positive impression of Biden after a recent meeting, stating that Biden seemed perfectly fine to him. Todd had asked Sanders if he had any advice for Biden on how to address concerns about his age. Sanders responded by emphasizing that voters should evaluate candidates based on a multitude of factors.

To illustrate his point, Todd mentioned that Biden’s energy level appears to be a concern for many voters, citing the President’s active travel schedule and regular media appearances as evidence of Sanders’ energetic approach. However, Sanders stressed that age should not be the sole determinant in evaluating a candidate’s qualifications. He argued that voters should consider where candidates stand on important issues, such as women’s rights to control their own bodies and the reality of climate change.

Sanders, who ran for president himself in 2020, has since thrown his support behind Biden, including for the upcoming 2024 election. He acknowledged that age is indeed a factor to consider but urged voters to look beyond this single aspect and focus on the broader issues at hand.

In a separate matter, there have been concerns raised regarding Sanders’ involvement in steering campaign funds towards his wife and stepson’s nonprofit organization. This has raised legitimate concerns among watchdog groups.

It is important to note that Sanders has also faced scrutiny for his own financial decisions, such as channeling $200,000 in campaign funds to his wife and stepson’s nonprofit institute.

Despite these controversies, Sanders continues to lend his support to President Biden and emphasizes that age is just one consideration among many.
