Bending Spoons, the parent company behind mobile filmmaking app Filmic Pro, has let go of the entire staff, including CEO Neill Barham. A spokesperson for Bending Spoons, Christy Keenan, confirmed in an email to The Verge that all 22 original members of the Filmic team were laid off in November. Keenan stated that Filmic has now been fully integrated into the Bending Spoons platform. PetaPixel first reported the layoffs on Friday.
Keenan added that the company’s “dedicated team” possesses the necessary knowledge to ensure a seamless user experience, having worked with Filmic’s original crew. Bending Spoons was already involved in mobile video with its Splice video editing app, which it acquired from GoPro in 2018.
Some former high-level employees took to social media to announce their departure. Christopher Cohen, the former technical chief officer, posted on November 3rd that he was no longer with the company. Kevin Buonagurio, the former chief operating officer, responded to a LinkedIn user sharing the PetaPixel story, expressing how pushing the envelope of mobile filmmaking made the Filmic journey fulfilling for them.
