Ben Affleck deems Netflix’s approach of churning out quality films quickly as an unattainable task.

Ben Affleck has shared his thoughts on how movies are being made in light of the age of Netflix and other streaming platforms. Speaking at the New York Times 2022 DealBook Conference, the actor, producer, and director, who is partnering with Matt Damon and RedBird Capital Partners to start a new film studio called Artists Equity, likened Netflix’s approach to an “assembly line.” Affleck emphasized that the art of filmmaking “requires attention and dedication and work and it resists the sort of assembly line process.” While acknowledging that “there’s (a) bigger audience for action movies than there is for small dramas,” Affleck hopes to surprise audiences and make them care enough about the film to want to watch it. As for Artists Equity, Affleck aims to reimagine the relationships between studios, artists, and crews working in the industry and has a project in production that stars Damon in a drama about the start of Nike’s Air Jordan sneaker brand.
