Dax Shepard’s Candid Admission of Addiction

In a revealing interview with Playboy in 2012, Dax Shepard opened up about his battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Confessing that from the age of 18 to 29, he was a “heavy smoker, heavy drinker, drug addict, terrible eater, and philanderer.”
Shepard candidly admitted, “I just loved to get fucked-up — drinking, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, diet pills, pain pills, everything. Mostly my love was Jack Daniel’s and cocaine.”
While he managed to get clean for certain movie roles, he would inevitably relapse into his destructive habits.
In a heartfelt Instagram post in September 2018, Shepard’s wife Kristen Bell celebrated his 14th year of sobriety, acknowledging the challenges he faced and commending his commitment to a better life. She wrote, “I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night. I’m so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story, but instead shared it widely, with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves.”
In a more recent episode of his podcast, “Armchair Expert,” released in 2020, Shepard revealed he had relapsed after 16 years of sobriety due to a motorcycle accident and subsequent use of painkillers. At the time, he had managed to stay sober for seven days.
