Becky Sauerbrunn, the captain of the US women’s national team, will not be able to participate in the upcoming Women’s World Cup due to an injury, a new report reveals.
Sauerbrunn suffered a foot injury in April while playing for the NWSL’s Portland Thorns.
Despite making a comeback from her injury earlier this month, The Athletic reported on Friday, citing multiple anonymous sources, that Sauerbrunn will not be part of the team in the tournament hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The players were notified of their roster status on Thursday, according to the publication.
Sauerbrunn joins a list of injured American players who will miss the tournament, including Mallory Swanson who suffered a knee injury in April.
