Following the incident, Rexha shared a video showing her black eye.
The NYPD has charged Nicolas Malvagna, a 27-year-old resident of New Jersey, with assault as the investigation continues.
According to Billboard, Malvanga told the police that he threw his phone at Rexha because he thought it would be funny.
