The Bears defense showcased an impressive performance, creating four takeaways in their recent game and holding the Vikings to just one offensive touchdown and under 250 total yards. This marks the second time this season that the defense has achieved such a feat, limiting Minnesota to a 2-of-9 conversion rate on third down (22.2%) and preventing any conversions on fourth down.
Head coach Matt Eberflus emphasized the impact of the defense, stating, “Defense creates momentum in a lot of different ways. They do it through third-down stops, they do it through big hits, and they do it through taking the ball away. That’s what we always preach to the guys, and they did all three things today.”
The Bears’ victory on Monday night held significant satisfaction after their previous game, where they allowed the Lions to stage a comeback. Kicker Cairo Santos expressed the team’s resilience, “We all showed character tonight after not finishing last week and then kind of that sticking with us this week. Getting the job done today was awesome for our team.”
Safety Eddie Jackson also echoed the team’s determination, “After last week we wanted to do the same thing, but just stick the knife in them. We wanted to go four quarters. It wasn’t pretty. We’ve got things to clean up on that touchdown drive. But overall, the defense, I feel like we played lights out.”
The game saw standout performances from Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Jaquan Brisker, and T.J. Edwards, who all secured interceptions. Montez Sweat also made an impact, recording 1.5 sacks, splitting one with Brisker.
Quarterback Justin Fields displayed precision in his passing, completing 27 of 37 attempts for 217 yards and rushing for a game-high 59 yards on 12 carries. He was also sacked three times. Receiver Darnell Mooney led all receivers with 11 catches for 114 yards.
Following this win, the Bears improved to a 4-8 record and have now achieved a 4-4 record since starting the season 0-4.
