Bear Spray-Wielding Flash Mob Snatches Valuables Worth $100K From Los Angeles Mall

Recent incidents of “flash mob” style robberies have taken place at malls in the Los Angeles area. The most recent incident occurred at the Nordstrom store inside the Westfield Topanga mall in Canoga Park. According to NBC Los Angeles, a group of 30 to 50 people raided the store on Saturday at around 4pm. When security guards tried to intervene, they were attacked with bear spray. The thieves managed to steal approximately $60,000 to $100,000 worth of luxury clothing and handbags before fleeing the scene. Bear spray can cause inflammation in a person’s eyes and upper respiratory system.

Ambulances were called to the scene, but it is unclear if anyone required hospitalization. No arrests have been made yet, but the police have leads and are determined to bring the culprits to justice. This incident occurred just days after a similar mob targeted a Yves Saint Laurent store at The Americana at Brand mall in Glendale. According to USA Today, the thieves made off with approximately $300,000 worth of high-end goods. These types of robberies, characterized by a large and coordinated group overwhelming the store’s staff, are becoming increasingly common. The suspects quickly grab as much merchandise as possible before fleeing in multiple vehicles. (Read more robbery stories.)
