Barcelona stages impressive comeback to secure draw against Rayo Vallecano

Barcelona managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano with a late second-half own-goal by defender Florian Lejeune on Saturday.

The LaLiga champions are currently third in the standings with 31 points, trailing behind Real Madrid and surprise leaders Girona.

However, they face the risk of dropping further in the rankings as Atletico Madrid, in fourth place with 28 points and two games in hand, have an opportunity to move ahead.

Barcelona’s performance was hampered by injuries to key players, including goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and midfielder Gavi.

Rayo Vallecano dominated the first half and secured the lead with a remarkable goal from midfielder Unai Lopez in the 39th minute.

Despite Barcelona’s efforts to retaliate in the second half, Rayo’s Lejeune inadvertently scored an own-goal in the 82nd minute, resulting in an equalizer for Barcelona.

Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, acknowledging the need for improvement despite the challenges they are facing.

“With a good team and solid plan, we need to work harder and strive for consistency to overcome our current situation,” he stated.
