The movie “Barbie” continues to dominate the box office.
In its third Friday of release, the summer blockbuster remains at the top, earning $17 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
The film, led by Margot Robbie and directed by Greta Gerwig, is on track to reach the billion-dollar mark globally before Monday. This would make Gerwig the first solo female director to achieve this milestone, as reported by CNBC.
In second place is “Meg 2: The Trench,” the sequel to the 2018 original, which earned $12 million in sales. The Hollywood Reporter praises the sci-fi action film for Jason Statham’s charming and self-ironic portrayal of his character.
Debuting in third place is “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” which earned $9.3 million on its opening day. The film explores the lives of hormonal, teenage, mutant, ninja turtles and has been well-received by critics.
