‘Bachelorette’ Star Josh Seiter, 36, tragically passes away following a long struggle with depression

Josh Seiter, a contestant on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of “The Bachelorette,” tragically passed away shortly after opening up about his struggles with depression and anxiety on social media. He was 36 years old. In an emotional statement shared on Seiter’s Instagram page, his family described him as a shining light in a dark world, whose brave voice and unwavering spirit brought solace to countless individuals during their most challenging moments. While his untimely passing has left his loved ones heartbroken, they take comfort in knowing that he has finally found peace.

The cause of Seiter’s death has not been disclosed, but his family included the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in their statement. We have reached out to representatives for ABC’s “The Bachelorette” and Kaitlyn Bristowe for comment.

Seiter, who graduated from the Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2013, openly discussed his mental health struggles. Sharing a selfie on Thursday, he captioned it with, “Surviving depression and anxiety one day at a time with a smile.” He also shared another picture in 2021, identifying himself as a suicide attempt survivor battling OCD, Bipolar Depression, and GAD, while refusing to give up.

In 2015, Seiter participated in Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of “The Bachelorette” but was sent home on the first night. On the show, he revealed his career as an exotic dancer, which he pursued to support himself in law school. During his introduction, Seiter removed his shirt and jokingly expressed his desire to move forward, as his ego would be hurt otherwise. However, he later claimed that this persona was scripted by the show’s producers. Although Bristowe was chosen as the lead, Seiter openly admitted to not being attracted to her and had no intentions of finding a wife through the show. He confessed that his motivation for appearing on “The Bachelorette” was primarily to gain exposure and further his career as an exotic dancer.

Following his stint on the reality show, Seiter went on to date women from other reality TV series such as “90 Day Fiancé” and “Love After Lockup.” Earlier this year, he publicly shared that he identifies as pansexual and revealed his relationship with another exotic dancer named David.
