A tragic incident occurred at a high school football game in Choctaw, Oklahoma, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old boy and injuries to four others, according to authorities.
The victim, who remains unidentified, was shot on Friday night as detailed in a news release from the Choctaw Police Department.
Authorities confirmed that the victim was not a student of any of the schools participating in the football game.
The incident occurred during the third quarter of a game between Choctaw High School and Del City High School.
According to authorities, an “argument started between at least two males” on the visitor’s side of the stadium, leading to the tragic shooting.
Alongside the deceased victim, a 42-year-old man was also shot in the chest and is currently in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
Additionally, a woman was shot in the thigh, while two female students sustained broken wrists and a broken leg while trying to flee the scene.
Lifesaving efforts were initiated on the injured 16-year-old, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
Superintendent David Reid, Safety Coordinator Steve Keiffer, and a trauma surgeon, who is Keiffer’s brother, were among those who administered aid to the 42-year-old victim.
The Choctaw School District had a strong security presence during the game, with five Choctaw officers, two on-duty officers, and two Del City officers.
A Del City officer discharged their firearm at the scene, and the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation into the shooting.
Two firearms and eight rounds were recovered by authorities at the scene.
