Auction Held for Musk’s X: Bird Signs & Office Decor Trace Back to Twitter Days

An esteemed auction and asset advisory company is set to host a mid-September online auction, offering a range of items from social media giant X’s previous days as Twitter. Over 580 different pieces will be up for bidding over the course of two days, with some bearing a more direct connection to X’s previous branding as Twitter. The auction, scheduled to begin on the morning of September 12, has garnered significant attention due to X’s recent rebranding, which included the removal of its iconic blue bird logo. Notable elements of the rebranding, such as the transformation of the Twitter Blue subscription service to X Premium and the Twitter Help Center to X Help Center, have also been reflected in the items included in the auction. Among the unique Twitter-specific items up for bidding are a striking neon marquee light in the shape of a hashtag, an intriguing “What’s Happening” agamograph, and a captivating bird cage-inspired hanging daybed.

The auction webpage also reveals the presence of various other pieces in the auction, some of which are more closely tied to X’s former Twitter branding than others, according to Heritage Global Partners’ website. Notably, multiple bird logo signs will be hitting the auction block, with a few even requiring the buyer to engage the services of an SF Licensed Company due to their attachment to X’s downtown San Francisco building. In a previous report by FOX Business, it was revealed that a large X sign once graced the roof of the former Twitter building, but has since been removed. Since its rebranding in July, X, the social media company owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has embraced the letter X as its new logo, diverging from Twitter’s well-known blue bird emblem.

According to the auction and asset advisory firm’s website, initial bids for the numerous Twitter-era items will automatically start at $25, alongside a 19% buyer’s premium. FOX Business has reached out to X for a comment on the upcoming auction. This is not the first time that Heritage Global Partners has auctioned off Twitter office items, as a similar auction took place in January.

In line with typical workplace auctions, the upcoming event will offer a wide range of items including office chairs, technological equipment, couches, tables, and kitchen tools. Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October led to its privatization, with an astonishing $44 billion price tag. Subsequently, the company was incorporated into the larger entity known as X Corp. Musk has expressed his vision of transforming Twitter into an “everything app” on multiple occasions. In a July post on the platform, Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, proclaimed that X is the future of interactive communication, fueled by AI and centered around audio, video, messaging, and payments. She expressed confidence in X’s ability to connect individuals globally and unlock unprecedented opportunities.
