Attorney Representing Warren Beatty Accuser Withdraws from Lawsuit

A judge granted permission on Thursday for an attorney to step down from the case of a woman who accuses Warren Beatty of sexual abuse during her teenage years. The plaintiff’s attorney, Michael Reck, had previously filed court papers with Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Edward Moreton Jr. requesting to withdraw as the woman’s lawyer without providing an explanation. On Thursday, Reck’s request was approved.

A minute order prepared by the judge’s clerk stated, “The motion to be relieved as counsel filed by Michael Reck… is granted.”

In a sworn declaration, Reck stated that his office had communicated multiple times through telephone, Zoom, and email with the plaintiff, discussing his reasons for filing the motion.

“I will ensure that any necessary paperwork is completed and that my client is notified of my withdrawal,” Reck stated.

The minute order did not mention whether the woman had hired a new lawyer.

The lawsuit, filed on November 7, alleges sexual battery, assault, and a violation of the state Penal Code. The plaintiff, who was a teenager at the time, claims that Beatty, who is now 86 years old, groomed her and coerced her into a sexual relationship in the 1970s, when he was in his 30s.

The suit states, “When the plaintiff was just a 14-year-old child, (Beatty) used his role, status, and power as a well-known Hollywood star to gain access to, groom, manipulate, exploit and coerce sexual contact from her over the course of several months…” The alleged abuse continued until late 1973, according to the lawsuit.

Beatty’s illustrious career spans over 60 years, with 14 Academy Award nominations. He earned an Oscar for best director for the 1981 film “Reds.”
