The Atlanta Braves clinched their sixth straight NL East title, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Wednesday night with Spencer Strider’s 17th win and Austin Riley’s two-run homer.
Kirby Yates struck out Brandon Marsh in the final moments, leading the Braves to celebrate on the field while Phillies fans voiced their disapproval. Yates recorded his fifth save of the season.
The Braves are the first team to secure a spot in the Major League Baseball playoffs this year. Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Oakland A’s, and Colorado Rockies have already been eliminated.
The Braves found satisfaction in clinching the division title on the Phillies’ home field, where they were eliminated in last year’s NL Division Series.
Just as the Phillies won that series 3-1, the Braves emerged victorious in this four-game set.
