Assistance Needed in Locating Suspect Involved in 2 Sexual Assaults and Additional Crimes, Authorities Appeal for Public Support

Authorities are seeking the assistance of the public in locating a 21-year-old man believed to be responsible for two sexual assaults and three other offenses within a span of six days.

Sergio Andrew Garcia is suspected of engaging in a series of attacks that commenced around 8:35 a.m. on July 10th. Reportedly, he followed a woman on foot from the vicinity of Olympic Boulevard and Albany Street in the Pico-Union district, as stated by the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to LAPD, Garcia sexually assaulted the woman and attempted to undress her as she was walking beneath the Harbor (110) Freeway on Olympic Boulevard, near LA Live Way.

Garcia allegedly approached a woman from behind at approximately 10:45 a.m. on July 11th in the area of Chick Hearn Court and Georgia Street, near Crypto.com Arena. He slapped her on the back, then fled the scene, according to LAPD.

Garcia is suspected of committing three additional crimes on Saturday.

Between 6 a.m. on Saturday, in East Los Angeles, Garcia purportedly assaulted a woman outside her residence on Fraser Avenue (in the 1000 block), according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“The suspect suddenly approached the victim from behind, grabbed her hair, and threw her to the ground,” stated the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim was then repeatedly punched in the face by Garcia. Eventually, he was startled by a nearby citizen who began shouting at him. Subsequently, Garcia delivered two more punches to the victim’s face before escaping the location on a black fixed-gear bicycle.

Rosalina Martinez, a 67-year-old resident, recounted the attack, stating that she was cleaning her front yard early on Saturday around 6 a.m. when she was assaulted.

“I had no idea what was happening,” she said in Spanish. “I screamed for help while he was hitting me.”

Neighbors came to her aid, dialed 911, and the assailant fled. Martinez, who has lived in the community for many years, expressed shock at the incident, as nothing like this has happened to her or anyone she knows before.

“Honestly, I am now afraid to go outside alone,” she said. “I feel very scared and worried that something like this might happen to me again.”

On Saturday at approximately 9:20 a.m., Garcia allegedly approached a woman as she was walking home from church in the 1300 block of South Alvarado Street, near Pico Boulevard in the Pico-Union district. He physically assaulted her, hitting her in the face several times, causing her to lose consciousness. LAPD reported that Garcia stole the victim’s belongings and fled the scene.

At around 9:35 a.m. on Saturday in the 1300 block of South Burlington Avenue, near Pico Boulevard, Garcia approached another woman from behind as she was searching through the trunk of her car. LAPD stated that he sexually assaulted her before escaping.

Garcia is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 151 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a mustache. Authorities noted that he often carries a black satchel with “Gucci” written in red lettering.
