Ashok Leyland’s Pioneering Vision: Securing a Spot Among the Top 10 Global CV Players

The Hinduja group’s flagship company, Ashok Leyland, has set its sights on becoming one of the top 10 global commercial vehicle manufacturers in the near future, according to company chairman Dheeraj Hinduja. Speaking at the 75th anniversary celebrations of the company, Hinduja stated that Ashok Leyland is currently ranked 20th on a global scale.

Hinduja emphasized the company’s commitment to exploring new markets and expanding its sales volume in the Indian market. He also highlighted the potential of their modular product, ‘Avtar,’ which has been developed with the intention of serving international markets.

To achieve their goal, Hinduja stressed the importance of establishing a strong network outside of India and finding suitable distributors in untapped markets. He pointed out that the company has already appointed 13 distributors in the African market, some of whom have their own assembly facility.

Ashok Leyland’s Managing Director and CEO, Shenu Agarwal, mentioned that the company’s first hydrogen fuel bus will start operating commercially in December. It has been developed for state-owned NTPC and will be deployed in the Leh and Ladakh region, undergoing necessary testing due to the high altitude.

Regarding the company’s ambitions to become a top 10 global player, Agarwal expressed confidence in achieving this goal through the introduction of new products and investment in pioneering technologies. He highlighted Ashok Leyland’s resilience over the past 75 years and its ability to adapt to changing times.

Hinduja, speaking about the 75th anniversary celebrations, expressed pride in the company’s accomplishments and mentioned the significance of their electric vehicle subsidiary, Switch, in shaping the future of Ashok Leyland.

In response to queries about the company’s focus on electric vehicles, Hinduja stated that while they are heading in that direction, diesel vehicles still have a long way to go. He emphasized the importance of considering economic and cost factors when exploring alternative fuels, indicating that Ashok Leyland would not solely prioritize electric vehicles.

When asked about the challenges of leading Ashok Leyland as Chairman, Hinduja attributed the company’s success to its commitment to professional management. He praised the capable leadership of the current CEOs, Shenu Agarwal and Mahesh Babu, and highlighted the support provided by the board of specialists in operations and technology.
