An investigation is currently underway into the tragic death of a woman, believed to be a nanny employed by singer Katharine McPhee. The incident occurred when an SUV crashed through a service bay and into the reception area of a car dealership in Mission Hills. The crash took place on Wednesday morning at Hamer Toyota on North Sepulveda Boulevard, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to the police report, the driver of a 2017 Toyota RAV4 inexplicably accelerated, resulting in a collision with several individuals inside the dealership. Two employees and a customer suffered injuries from the impact. The Los Angeles Fire Department promptly responded, transporting all three individuals to a local hospital. The employees, aged 23 and 35, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover. Surprisingly, the 84-year-old female driver emerged unharmed.
The LAPD is actively investigating the incident and has not released the name of the driver, who has not been arrested thus far, according to a statement provided by an LAPD spokesperson. Tragically, one of the injured parties, a 55-year-old female customer, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the deceased has not been officially confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
TMZ.com, however, reported that the deceased woman was Yadira Calito, known to be the nanny of 2-year-old Rennie Foster, the son of Katherine McPhee and her husband, David Foster. According to TMZ’s sources, Calito was trapped under the SUV and dragged for approximately 20 feet before being rescued. She was initially rushed to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately did not survive.
Meanwhile, McPhee and Foster were on tour in Asia at the time of the incident. McPhee took to Instagram to announce her return home due to the “horrible tragedy”, expressing her regret for missing two planned shows in Jakarta, Indonesia. Foster, however, continued with the scheduled performances in Indonesia.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of the SUV’s acceleration. The accident has left the community grieving and questioning the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
