Police Arrest 57-Year-Old Man for Alleged Property Theft During Boyle Heights Protest

Gustavo Otzoy, a 57-year-old man, has been arrested for allegedly stealing personal and official property from a police officer during a tenants’ rights protest in Boyle Heights. The arrest was made on Tuesday following an investigation into the scuffle that took place during the Sunday protest, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to the LAPD, officers were called to the scene of the protest on Sunday after the situation became unruly. While attempting to arrest a person involved in the unrest, officers were confronted by several members of the crowd who engaged in a violent altercation to free the person under arrest.

During the scuffle, Gustavo Otzoy allegedly took personal and department property from a uniformed police officer and managed to escape arrest in the chaos of the incident, the LAPD stated.

The LAPD reported that at least seven officers sustained injuries during the confrontation.

After further investigation, Gustavo Otzoy was identified as the suspect and was subsequently arrested on Tuesday. He is currently being held in custody with a bail set at $50,000.
