Arrested: Fake US Marshal Caught at Robert Kennedy, Jr. Event

A man pretending to be a U.S. marshal was apprehended on Friday during a National Hispanic Heritage Month event at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, where Robert F. Kennedy, a Democratic presidential candidate, was speaking.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a report around 4:30 p.m. about a disturbance at the theater located in the Mid-Wilshire Area on West Eighth Street, according to LAPD Officer Drake Madison.

Upon arrival, officers found a man who was impersonating a U.S. marshal and claiming to be part of Kennedy’s security team. They arrested him and took him to the LAPD’s Wilshire Division Station, Madison said.

“He didn’t pose a threat to anyone and there were no injuries,” Madison told City News Service.

Police revealed that the suspect was wearing a U.S. Marshals Service badge on a lanyard and was armed with two handguns.

“He will likely face charges related to the possession of firearms, but we won’t know for sure until tomorrow,” Madison explained.

Madison stated that the FBI was informed, but it was decided that the LAPD would handle the arrest and investigation.

Kennedy expressed his gratitude to his security team and the LAPD for their prompt response in a tweet.

The candidate’s father, U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated on June 5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel, which is located less than 2 miles east of the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
