Arrested: Armed Individual Disrupts Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Event

An armed man posing as a U.S. marshal was apprehended at a National Hispanic Heritage Month event held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, which featured a speech by Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The incident occurred in the Mid-Wilshire area, specifically the 4400 block of West Eighth Street. The Los Angeles Police Department received a report on Friday at around 4:30 p.m., alerting them of a disturbance at the theater.

Upon arrival, officers discovered and detained the individual who was impersonating a U.S. marshal and claimed to be a member of Kennedy’s security team. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the LAPD’s Wilshire Division Station. Officer Drake Madison confirmed that no one was harmed or threatened during the incident.

The perpetrator was wearing a U.S. Marshals Service badge on a lanyard and was found in possession of two handguns. Officer Madison anticipated that the suspect would face gun-related charges, but the final decision would be made on Saturday. The FBI was informed about the situation, but it was determined that the LAPD would handle the arrest and investigation.

In a tweet, Kennedy expressed his gratitude to his security staff and commended the LAPD for their swift response. It is worth noting that Kennedy’s father, U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, was tragically assassinated on June 5, 1968, at the nearby Ambassador Hotel, located less than 2 miles east of the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
