In custody on Thursday are a parolee, aged 22, and a 17-year-old boy suspected of attempting a robbery at a restaurant in Mid-City using a weapon resembling an assault rifle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident took place on Sunday around 1 p.m. in the 1800 block of South La Brea Avenue. Upon receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, officers responded promptly.
Upon reviewing video surveillance, detectives discovered that the two suspects entered an undisclosed restaurant and approached the victim, who was waiting to order food with a group of men. One of the suspects tried to snatch the victim’s necklace, sparking a struggle between the suspect and the victim, with the victim’s friends coming to his aid. It was during this altercation that the second suspect retrieved an assault-style rifle from his waistband and aimed it at the victim. However, all parties involved had fled the scene before the arrival of the officers.
Through diligent investigation and following leads, detectives successfully identified the suspects as 22-year-old Dean Mckoy and his 17-year-old accomplice. The two individuals, residing in Los Angeles, were apprehended on Tuesday and subsequently charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
The name of the 17-year-old suspect is being withheld due to his age, while Mckoy’s bail has been set at $50,000. Furthermore, Mckoy is subject to a parole hold.
