Arrest Made: Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urias Taken into Custody

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ star pitcher, Julio Urías, who previously served a 20-game suspension for violating the MLB’s domestic violence policy in 2019, has been apprehended on felony domestic violence charges, as confirmed by authorities on Monday.

Aged 27, Urías, who led the National League in wins during the 2021 season and earned the best run average in 2022, was taken into custody late Sunday and subsequently released on $50,000 bond early Monday.

The Dodgers, in their statement on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledged the incident involving Julio Urías and announced that he will not be accompanying the team while they collect all the facts. The organization has refrained from further comments at this time.

The Dodgers are scheduled to commence a three-game series against the Miami Marlins in Miami on Tuesday.

Specific details regarding the circumstances leading to Urías’ arrest are not immediately available. The Los Angeles Police Department has indicated that Urías was apprehended by the Exposition Park police. The Department of Public Safety, responsible for patrolling Exposition Park and the surrounding buildings, possesses the authority to make arrests, but they could not be reached for confirmation of the arrest at this time.

Given that the area was highly congested on Sunday night due to the soccer match featuring LAFC and Inter Miami at BMO Stadium, which welcomed Argentinian star Lionel Messi from the Miami club, it was reported by the Los Angeles Times that Urías was among several celebrities in attendance. Additionally, fellow Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was reportedly present at the match as well.

Urías’ performance this season stands at 11-8 with a 4.60 earned-run average.

Having embarked on his Major League career with the Dodgers in 2016, Urías boasts a lifetime record of 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA.

In 2019, Urías was subjected to a suspension imposed by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred following an incident in the parking lot of the Beverly Center on May 13 of that year. TMZ reported a witness had notified the police about Urías engaging in an argument with a woman and pushing her to the ground. Law enforcement officers responded to the scene and spoke to the woman, who denied any physical altercation, asserting that it was merely a heated argument.

Urías was arrested at the time on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery; however, no charges were ultimately filed.
