Apollo 8 Commander and Astronaut Frank Borman Passes Away, Announces NASA

BILLINGS, Mont. — At the age of 95, Astronaut Frank Borman, who led Apollo 8’s historic Christmas flight circling the moon 10 times in 1968 and later helmed Eastern Airlines during the 1970s and ’80s, has passed away.

Borman passed away in Billings, Montana as confirmed by NASA. While he had a significant career in aviation and space exploration, his legacy will forever be tied to his NASA mission where he and his crew became the first to fly to the moon, providing a new perspective on Earth and space.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, in a statement, honored Borman saying, “Today we remember one of NASA’s best. Astronaut Frank Borman was a true American hero.”
