AOC Engages in a Spirited Debate with Elon Musk on X after Being Disparaged as ‘Less Intelligent’

Elon Musk and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) are embroiled in a fierce social media feud as the Tesla mogul criticizes the Democratic Socialist lawmaker for her stance on illegal immigration, calling her “not that smart.”

Ocasio-Cortez responded to Musk’s comments by highlighting her achievements on the X social media platform: “I wasn’t born rich and became the youngest woman in American history to be elected to Congress.”

She continued, “Then I investigated [former Trump lawyer Michael] Cohen, authored the largest FEMA funeral assistance program in history, and led the creation of a US Climate Corps to generate tens of thousands of new jobs.”

Asserting her confidence, Ocasio-Cortez wrote to her 13.2 million followers, “Stay mad,” accompanied by a hand-tipping emoji.

Ocasio-Cortez’s response garnered significant engagement, with over 106,000 likes, 14,000 comments, and 8,500 reposts.

Musk, who acquired X for $44 billion last year, retaliated on Thursday, writing, “I take it back — you’re obviously a genius.”

Musk sarcastically congratulated Ocasio-Cortez on her achievements and raised a counterpoint to her FEMA funeral assistance program, suggesting that FEMA focus on preventing funerals instead.

On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez criticized Musk and a Republican congressman for visiting Eagle Pass, Texas, a border town experiencing an influx of migrants.

In response to a photo showing Musk and Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) near the border, Ocasio-Cortez questioned the timing of their visit, highlighting important votes in the House and the Republican congressman’s absence.

Musk documented his observations of the situation at the border with a live stream on X.

Musk expressed his astonishment at the situation on Friday morning, calling it “beyond insane and growing fast.”

In recent weeks, large groups of migrants, mainly from Venezuela, have been crossing the Rio Grande near a railroad bridge in Eagle Pass, Texas, regardless of the presence of razor wire along the banks.

Under a new rule implemented in May by President Joe Biden’s administration, migrants who have not obtained an appointment to cross at a legal port of entry through the CBP One mobile app may face difficulties in seeking asylum and potential rapid deportation.

Migrant numbers initially decreased following the announcement, but there has been a recent rise as thousands of migrants, particularly from Venezuela, have journeyed through South and Central America to the US border.

Ocasio-Cortez downplayed the severity of the migrant crisis last week, comparing it to the number of immigrants who arrived through Ellis Island in the past century.

In response, Musk referred to Ocasio-Cortez as “not very smart,” reigniting their ongoing feud. Ocasio-Cortez retaliated by pledging to switch from a Tesla to an electric vehicle made by a unionized company.

Musk has a history of trolling Ocasio-Cortez on social media.

Last year, in response to her tweet about “some billionaire with an ego problem,” Musk jokingly replied, “Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy.”

Ocasio-Cortez quickly fired back, clarifying that she was referring to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, before deleting the response within a minute.
