Another Driver Detained in Deadly Long Beach Collision

A week ago, the Long Beach Police Department made an arrest in connection with a fatal crash. Both individuals involved in the incident are now facing a charge of vehicular manslaughter and are currently in custody, awaiting trial.

The tragic crash occurred on June 16 at the intersection of Willow Street and Caspian Avenue in Long Beach. Jacqueline Zamarripa, a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach, tragically lost her life after being ejected from the front passenger seat of a pickup truck.

According to police reports, Zamarripa was traveling in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado heading westbound on Willow Street. Meanwhile, an unidentified light-colored SUV was performing dangerous maneuvers, known as “donuts,” at the intersection of Caspian Avenue.

The SUV collided with the Silverado, causing the pickup truck to lose control and crash into a tree in the central median. The driver of the Silverado, Noe Jose Menjivar, a 20-year-old resident of Carson, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. However, the SUV fled the scene of the accident.

The following day, Saul Alfas, a 20-year-old resident of Carson and the alleged driver of the SUV, surrendered himself to the Long Beach police. Alfas was subsequently arrested and booked on charges of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run causing injury or death. His bail was set at $50,000.

After presenting their findings to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Long Beach police detectives secured felony charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence against both drivers involved in the collision. On Thursday, Menjivar was arrested at his residence by detectives and was taken to Long Beach City jail. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bail. Both individuals remain in custody, under the supervision of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detective Shawn Loughlin at 562-570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
