Anne Huntington and Tyler DePatis Tie the Knot in Forest, Illinois

Anne Stewart Huntington and Tyler Paul DePatis defied their own expectations on their first date. Despite the advice to avoid dinner on a first date, they decided to indulge their appetite and dine together. Similarly, Anne had always refused rides home from first dates, but when Tyler offered, she agreed. There was something special about him that gave her a positive feeling.

Anne, who had experienced her fair share of online dating, had a deep fascination with first dates. Sitting down with a stranger and listening to their life story intrigued her like no other format. In fact, she had even embarked on a project called “Anne Hunting Love,” where she aimed to go on 21 first dates in 30 days. The project came to an abrupt halt due to the pandemic, but it left her with a unique perspective on dating.

Buoyed by her experiences, Anne decided to reenter the dating scene in the summer of 2021. She committed to going on a first date every week. But Tyler stood out among the other men she had met. Many were put off by her podcast, but Tyler showed genuine interest and wanted to know more.

Their connection grew, and they planned a second date. However, Anne had never been in a serious relationship before and struggled with commitment. Her teenage and young adult years were filled with travel and exploration in various countries. On the other hand, Tyler had only recently started dating again after the end of a long-term relationship. It took him until the fifth date to muster the courage to kiss her.

Their fourth date was a remarkable 10-hour adventure. They strolled along the Chicago Riverwalk, hopping from one bar to another, engrossed in conversation until the early hours of the morning. Despite numerous opportunities, Tyler didn’t kiss her that night. Instead, he complimented her eyes as he got into his Uber. Anne anticipated a kiss but ended up sending him a text later, urging him to be bolder next time. He took her words to heart and, on their next date, he bravely grabbed her face and kissed her.

Around February 2022, after five months of dating, Anne approached Tyler with a question. Ever the researcher, she wanted a percentage that indicated his certainty about their future together. However, Tyler hesitated to answer. It wasn’t until they were driving to meet friends that he revealed his unwavering conviction. He was “110 percent” sure that she was the one. Six months later, on their first anniversary, he proposed.

Anne, a well-educated woman with degrees in history, Arabic, and education, works as a research associate at Education Development Center in Chicago. Tyler, a project engineer from Petersburg, Illinois, holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and works at TERRA Engineering. The two were married on July 15 at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in River Forest, Illinois, surrounded by 165 guests. The ceremony had its adorable mishaps, with one toddler captivated by the stained glass and exclaiming “Beautiful!” throughout. The couple then celebrated with a brunch reception at Oak Park Country Club, where guests created LEGO versions of themselves instead of signing a traditional guest book.

Their wedding embraced uniqueness. Lemon bars, cookies, and an ice cream sundae bar replaced the conventional wedding cake. Their first dance was a touching moment to the orchestral version of Hanson’s “MMMBop,” one of Anne’s favorite songs. In the evening, they hosted a pool party at the country club, featuring Chicago’s beloved foods like beef sandwiches, curly fries, pizza, and Italian ices. Anne donned a white swimsuit, and Tyler sported a tuxedo T-shirt as they jumped off the diving board together, symbolizing their shared sense of adventure and fun.
