Angels superstar Mike Trout will return to the injured list due to a wrist injury. Trout was activated off the IL for Tuesday’s game but missed both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Reds. General manager Perry Minasian announced that Trout will be shut down for 10 days to aid in his recovery.

Trout originally went on the IL in early July after fracturing the hamate bone in his left wrist. He returned without a rehab assignment but experienced lingering soreness, leading to his current shutdown. Despite the injury, Trout had been planning to play through the pain for the rest of the season, as long as it was manageable.

The Angels hope to have Trout back before the end of the season, but with Shohei Ohtani out due to a UCL tear and the team 10.5 games out of the AL wild-card race, they may consider shutting him down once eliminated from playoff contention. The Reds swept the doubleheader and the series against the Angels this week.
