Angels’ Playoff Hopes Diminish as Three-time MVP Mike Trout Makes a Comeback

Los Angeles Angels sensation, Mike Trout, is finally ready to make his long-awaited return to the lineup on Tuesday night following a seven-week absence. The three-time American League MVP has been sidelined for the past 38 Angels games due to a broken bone in his left hand. During a game on July 3, Trout immediately began shaking his left arm after being hit by a ball, which led to his placement on the 10-day injured list the next day.

Now, the Angels have activated Trout and he will be batting in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. He will also resume his position in center field. Despite undergoing surgery to repair the break, Trout is still experiencing some pain, but he is determined to provide the Angels with the boost they desperately need.

Trout expressed his eagerness to return to the game, stating, “It’s definitely sore, but I’ve consulted with doctors who assured me that it can’t get injured any further. There will be soreness, but I’m just happy to be out there with the guys.”

While the Angels made several acquisitions before the trade deadline in an effort to improve their playoff chances, they struggled to perform without Trout, only managing a 16-22 record during his absence. The team’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread as they have lost 11 of their last 18 games. However, Trout remains optimistic, saying, “We’re not out of it. I’ve seen some incredible things happen. We have a group of guys who refuse to give up. This may not be where we wanted to be right now, but we’re not giving up.”

Trout has never experienced a playoff victory throughout his illustrious MLB career, which began in 2014. The Angels have endured seven consecutive losing seasons, the longest active streak in the league. This serves as additional motivation for Trout to push through the pain and give his all in the remaining 37 games of the regular season.

Angels manager Phil Nevin expressed the excitement surrounding Trout’s return, stating, “Writing his name in the lineup brings a sense of anticipation. There’s a different energy in the room. Some of the guys we traded for haven’t had the chance to play with him yet. He’s been a great teammate in the dugout, helping everyone out. Seeing him back on the field is a tremendous lift for everybody.”

The Angels’ game on Tuesday night marked their first game since Saturday due to the effects of Tropical Storm Hilary. They will be playing a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds on August 23. So, as Trout makes his comeback, the Angels are hoping to turn their season around and make a strong playoff push.
