Andrea Agnelli, former president of Juventus, has been handed an additional 16-month ban from football for fraudulent handling of player salary cuts during the coronavirus pandemic.

This ban adds to a two-year ban that was previously imposed on Agnelli, who resigned his position with the Serie A club in November following an investigation into their transfer dealings.

Furthermore, Agnelli has been fined €60,000 (£51,000) by the Italian football federation for misconduct related to player agents and partnerships with other clubs.

In May, Juventus and seven other former directors reached a plea bargain with the federation regarding the salary case, but Agnelli chose to be judged individually.

During the pandemic, Juventus announced that 23 players had agreed to salary reductions for four months to support the club. However, prosecutors alleged that the players only waived one month’s salary.

After previously receiving a deduction of 10 points last season for false accounting in another legal case, Juventus now faces the risk of further points deduction.

In a recent ruling by the Italian Federal Court of Appeal, the previous decision to deduct 15 points related to the “capital gains scandal” in their transfer dealings has been reinstated.

Both Agnelli and Juventus have denied any wrongdoing, with Agnelli and the entire Juventus board resigning amidst the investigation by Turin prosecutors into false accounting.

Agnelli is also scheduled to have his latest appeal regarding the two-year ban stemming from the false accounting case heard on Tuesday.

Additionally, UEFA is expected to make a decision soon on whether Juventus should be banned from the Conference League in the next season due to their ongoing legal troubles.
