‘Alien weapon’ dating back 3,000 years discovered in Switzerland
Archaeologists have uncovered a 3,000-year-old weapon believed to be made from ‘alien iron’.
The arrowhead, which was fashioned out of a meteorite, was discovered at the ancient Bronze Age site called Mörigen in Switzerland by researchers from the University of Bern.
The composition of the artifact was analyzed by geologists, who found traces of aluminum-26, a short-lived isotope that is not naturally found on Earth but was abundant in the early solar system.
Interestingly, there have only been three meteorites with the same combination of metals found in Europe, one in the Czech Republic, another in Spain, and the third in Estonia.
The team believes that the Estonian meteorite is the likely origin of the arrowhead, despite it being over 1,400 miles away from Switzerland.
