Amber Heard’s Captivating Role in ‘Aquaman 2’ Trailer: Blink and You May Miss Her!

Amber Heard’s character played a significant role in 2018’s film “Aquaman.”

However, in the trailer for the upcoming movie “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” her character Mera only appears briefly.

In the new film, she reprised her role, as did Jason Momoa, who stars as Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman. Their characters’ love story was featured in the first movie, and in the sequel, Aquaman reveals that he is now a father.

Heard was involved in a legal battle with her ex-husband, fellow actor Johnny Depp, in the summer of 2022.

Depp sued Heard for allegedly defaming him in a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post, in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although Depp was not named in the article, he claimed it affected his acting career negatively.

Heard filed a countersuit and testified that Depp’s dismissal of her claims of domestic abuse as a “hoax” resulted in her reduced role in “Aquaman 2.”

“I fought hard to stay in the film,” Heard testified. “I was given a script and new versions of it. They essentially cut a lot from my role.”

In an EW interview published this week, James Wan, the director of both the original and the sequel, revealed that the plan for the sequel was always to focus less on Mera and more on the character of Orm, played by Patrick Wilson.

“I pitched this from the beginning. The first ‘Aquaman’ was about Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second one was always going to be about Arthur and Orm,” Wan said. “So, the first was a romance action-adventure, and the second one is a bromance action-adventure. That’s all I’ll say.”

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is set to be released in theaters on December 20. (The film is produced by DC Studios, and like CNN, is part of Warner Bros. Discovery.)
