Amazon Sees Increase in Prime Day Sales Compared to Last Year

The Prime Day sales event by Amazon this year surpassed all previous records, making it the biggest event ever. Prime members globally purchased over 375 million items during the two-day event held on Tuesday and Wednesday, surpassing last year’s figure of 300 million items sold during Prime Day, which was then considered the largest event of its kind.

In an announcement on Thursday, Amazon revealed that Tuesday, the first day of Prime Day, recorded the highest sales in the company’s history. It also mentioned that Prime members saved a record-breaking $2.5 billion during the event. Doug Herrington, the CEO of Amazon Stores, expressed pride in offering exclusive deals events like Prime Day, emphasizing the incredible value that Prime provides to its members.

The release further highlighted that this year’s Prime Day featured a greater number of deals than ever before. Home, fashion, and beauty emerged as the top-selling categories of products. Additionally, the event proved to be a tremendous success for independent sellers, particularly small- and medium-sized businesses, with Amazon offering more deals on their products than ever before.

The best-selling product worldwide during Prime Day was the Fire TV Stick third generation with Alexa Voice Remote. Millions of other Alexa-enabled devices were also purchased by consumers. Moreover, Prime members were given the opportunity to shop beyond the Amazon store through the Buy with Prime feature, which grants access to the same benefits when shopping directly on certain brand websites.

The release indicated that participating merchants experienced a significant increase in daily Buy with Prime orders, with a 10-fold increase during Prime Day compared to the month leading up to the event’s announcement. Additionally, they witnessed an eight-fold increase in daily revenue from these orders during Prime Day compared to the month before the event was announced.
