All the Important Details About This Year’s Art Fair PH

Art Fair Philippines, now in its remarkable tenth year, is making a grand return to The Link Ayala Center Makati from February 17 to 19, 2023. This year’s fair will feature a diverse group of 63 exhibitors from various countries such as the Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Open from 10 am to 9 pm, visitors can enter the fair through Parkway Drive or the Bridgeway on the 3rd floor of Landmark. Tickets can be purchased on-site or in advance through the official website, artfairphilippines.com. The ticket prices are as follows: P450 for a day pass, P350 for students, senior citizens, and PWDs, and P200 for Makati students with a valid ID.

Art Fair Philippines is not just about the art itself, but also about the experience. This year, architect Andy Locsin has developed a fresh “biophilic” design for the fair, elevating the multi-sensory experience for visitors. The new layout incorporates patterns and brings nature closer to guests. Keep an eye out for areas of the fair that will utilize renewable bamboo materials provided by Rizome, a company based in Cagayan de Oro.

Building on the success of the metaverse-based Art Fair PH in 2021, this year’s edition continues to explore new avenues in the digital realm. Special exhibits curated by CryptoArtPH artists Bjorn Calleja and Jopet Arias will be showcased, featuring renowned Filipino digital artists including Mark Inducil and Skye Nicolas, who are based in Melbourne and New York respectively.

For a truly exceptional experience, make your way to The Link’s Roof Deck where you can explore the special exhibits curated by Noman Crisologo. This section, known as the AFP/Projects Section, features a talented roster of artists such as Faye Abantao, Kiko Escora, Mark Andy Garcia, Raymond Guevarra, Pow Martinez, Yeo Kaa, and Peter Zimmerman.

Film enthusiasts will also have a treat at this year’s fair with the Film section program curated by the Ateneo Art Gallery. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch “Alternative Cinema: History, Theory and Practice” by renowned filmmaker and film historian Nick Deocampo. Additionally, photographer Wawi Navarroza, known for her captivating self-portraits in colorful tableaus, will be exhibiting “As Wild As We Come”, a collection previously featured at the National Gallery of Singapore.

Art Fair Philippines will also pay tribute to two influential figures in the Philippine art scene who recently passed away: Norma Liongoren of Liongoren Gallery and Albert Avellana of Avellana Art Gallery. This homage promises to be a moving tribute to their groundbreaking contributions to the art world.

Art fairs have evolved from mere commercial exchanges to platforms for exchanging ideas. Don’t miss out on the insightful talks and workshops happening during the fair. Topics include landscapes, mindscapes, and inscapes featuring artists Faye Abantao, Mark Andy Garcia, and Raymond Guevarra, as well as tonalities of voices from the regions. Indonesian artist Yunizar will also be giving an artist talk.

If you’re interested in delving into Web 3 and NFTs, sign up for the workshops offered on the fair’s website.

While exploring the fair can be exhilarating, take a break and satisfy your cravings at one of the dining options available. Head up to the roof deck to enjoy fine Japanese cuisine from the Art Fair’s regular restaurant, Kai. Alternatively, you can energize yourself with a cup of coffee from Toby’s Estate or indulge in a libation from Special Project Partner, Don Papa Rum.

Last year, Art Fair PH had to adapt due to stricter protocols, holding an outdoor fair in the Ayala Triangle Gardens and off-site exhibitions in galleries. After the success of this hybrid presentation, Art Fair Philippines is bringing back their “Gallery Weekend” this year. Check out the lineup of galleries exhibiting in their own locations on www.10daysofart.com.
