In the latest drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, no tickets matched all six numbers, resulting in an estimated jackpot of $41 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
A ticket without the Powerball number but with five matching numbers was sold at a gas station in the unincorporated East County community of Spring Valley, California. It is worth $222,615, according to the California Lottery.
An additional ticket with five matching numbers but without the Powerball number was sold in New Jersey and is worth $1 million, as confirmed by the Multi-State Lottery Association, the organization that oversees the game.
In other states, tickets with five matching numbers but without the Powerball number are worth either $1 million or $2 million. However, California law stipulates that major lottery prizes must be paid on a pari-mutuel basis, which can be higher or lower than $1 million.
No tickets matched all six numbers, resulting in the jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing increasing to $41 million.
The numbers drawn on Monday were 3, 4, 12, 28, 49, and the Powerball number was 25. The jackpot for that drawing was $28 million.
This drawing was the second one since a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball game is played in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
