Alex Rodriguez expects the Los Angeles Angels to clinch the World Series within five years through trades involving Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout

Alex Rodriguez has presented a bold and unconventional idea to save the struggling Los Angeles Angels, but it may not go over well with the team’s fanbase. During FS1’s pre-coverage of the Home Run Derby in Seattle, the former Yankees third baseman, now turned analyst, proposed trading both Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout in order to position the Angels for a World Series championship within five years. This out-of-the-box suggestion comes as Ohtani approaches free agency and with the MLB trade deadline looming, Rodriguez sees an opportunity for a game-changing move.

“I believe this situation requires a serious approach and a daring move,” Rodriguez stated confidently. “If they trade Ohtani first, followed by Trout, and acquire five or six players, specifically targeting first-rounders, they can build a winning team. Additionally, they should consider bringing in someone like Theo Epstein, giving him ownership, and allowing him to run the organization.”

Rodriguez’s idea sparked a humorous response from Derek Jeter, who suggested adding selling the team and relocating from Anaheim to complete the sequence. However, the Angels face a complicated situation regarding Ohtani’s future with the club. Although a return to Los Angeles isn’t guaranteed, the team would have to pay a hefty sum to retain his services. Ohtani has proved his worth as a dual-threat player, excelling at the plate with a batting average of .302/.387/.663 and leading the league in home runs with 32. On the mound, he has posted a solid 7-4 record and a 3.32 ERA.

Meanwhile, Trout, with 18 home runs and a slash line of .263/.369/.493 this season, is another valuable asset for the Angels. Trading away these star players, who are not only key pieces for the Angels but also considered among the biggest stars in MLB, would undoubtedly cause unrest among the fanbase.

Although Rodriguez’s idea may seem far-fetched, it is important to note that trading first-round picks is not allowed in Major League Baseball. Furthermore, it appears Angels owner Arte Moreno has no intention of parting ways with Ohtani, as reported by Bob Nightengale.

As the Angels stand at a 45-46 record heading into the All-Star break, with a five-game losing streak, the team faces a challenging road ahead. While Rodriguez’s plan may not come to fruition, it showcases the need for innovative and strategic thinking to revive a struggling franchise.
