Witness the future of transportation. The Detroit Auto Show hosted the world’s first-ever flying car, captivating the audience just two months after receiving official approval. Alef Aeronautics, based in California, proudly presented their groundbreaking Model A prototype. This innovative vehicle closely resembles a standard sedan but features a UFO-inspired bubble-like seating area spacious enough for two adventurous passengers.
Although the Model A was not flown at the event, Alef is expected to start production on the first flyable car within the next two years. Founder and CEO Jim Dukhovny clarified, “It’s still not the final consumer version, but at this point, it’s pretty close.”
Upon release, the Model A will come with a price tag of $300,000. However, the flying car already holds a Special Airworthiness Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, allowing Alef to test it on both roads and in the air.
Dukhovny initially conceived the concept of a flying car to alleviate traffic congestion, but he has been pleasantly surprised by the various potential use cases suggested by others. The Model A is a fully electric vehicle that can travel up to 200 miles on public roads and fly up to 110 miles in the air.
Featuring a rotating and stabilizing cabin, the Model A ensures a comfortable and thrilling flying experience with its “cinematic” 180-plus degree views. Despite its impressive capabilities, the car is designed to have dimensions similar to an SUV, measuring about 17 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 6 feet high, making it suitable for standard parking spaces and garages.
Designed for the general public, the Model A prioritizes user-friendliness. With minimal air traffic during the learning process, Dukhovny confidently claims, “I can teach you how to fly and drive this in about 15 minutes or less. If you can tell the difference between the right, left, up, down, front, and back, you can do this. It’s pretty much the only controls it has.”
