A corrections deputy has been arrested for alleged extortion and engaging in sexual activity with female inmates assigned to home confinement in Banning.
Christian Heidecker, aged 32, voluntarily surrendered to investigators and was subsequently booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on Friday with a bail set at $1 million, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department became aware of potential crimes committed by a former employee of the Riverside Alternative Sentencing Program on August 31. The Program was situated at the Coordinated Custody Management Unit in Banning.
Authorities discovered that a correctional deputy had been extorting female inmates who were assigned to the home confinement unit. Inmates participating in the program are required to wear ankle monitors while serving their court-ordered sentences at home.
Heidecker was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on multiple charges, including engaging in sexual activity with an inmate, attempted sexual activity with an inmate, and extortion under color of authority.
Following his arrest, Heidecker has been placed on administrative leave.
The authorities suspect that there may be additional victims and encourage anyone with relevant information to contact Investigator R. Deanne at 951-955-2777.
