July 24 (UPI) — In a groundbreaking move, Al-Hilal, a soccer club from Saudi Arabia, has made an unprecedented bid of $332 million to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their attempt to acquire the talented French forward Kylian Mbappe.
According to various sources, including the BBC, CBS Sports, and Sky Sports, this transfer fee offer was made on Monday morning.
Kylian Mbappe, aged 24, made his debut in professional soccer with Monaco and later joined PSG initially on loan in 2017. He secured a permanent deal with the renowned French Ligue 1 club in 2018. Mbappe informed PSG last year that he has no intention of extending his contract beyond the 2024 season.
The talented striker showcased his prowess by scoring 29 goals and providing five assists in 34 Ligue 1 games this season for PSG. In the 2021-22 Ligue 1 campaign, Mbappe netted 28 goals and assisted in 17, making him a dominant force in the league.
For the past five seasons, he has consistently topped the scoring charts in Ligue 1.
Mbappe recently scored in stoppage time during PSG’s friendly match against Le Havre, securing a 2-0 victory for his team in Paris.
In upcoming matches, PSG will face Al-Nassr, the Saudi club that acquired Cristiano Ronaldo in December, while Al-Hilal will compete against Al Ahly Tripoli in an Arab Club Champions Cup match.
The 2022-23 Saudi Pro League standings saw Al-Hilal finishing in third place, trailing behind Al-Ittihad in first and Al-Nassr in second.
Over the past year, the Saudi Pro League has attracted several top former European players, including Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi, who was previously a teammate of Mbappe at PSG, declined an offer from Al-Hilal earlier this month. Instead, he opted to sign with Inter Miami.
