Akari management has brought in the NXLED Chameleons as the 12th professional team in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), adding even more excitement to the league ahead of the season-ending All-Filipino Conference in October.

“We would like to thank the PVL for accepting NXLED as the newest team in the country’s only professional volleyball league. We hope to build a competitive NXLED team and also look forward to having a stronger partnership with Ricky Palou and the whole PVL organization,” said Akari sports director Russel Balbacal in a statement on Thursday.

While no details about the Chameleons’ roster have been revealed, sources have disclosed that the team will follow the approach of Foton by selecting players from the sister team Chery Tiggo to form the core of its roster.

This recruitment process will include players from the Akari Chargers, a team composed of some of the best young stars in the league. In addition, Akari management is actively recruiting from powerhouse La Salle and other collegiate teams to strengthen its lineup and create a pathway for players to join NXLED.

NXLED, a sub-brand of Akari Lighting and Technology Corporation, will join rookie squads Gerflor, Foton, and Farm Fresh as the fourth pair of sister teams in the PVL.

The upcoming conference will mark the one-year anniversary of the Akari Chargers’ participation in the PVL, having debuted in the Reinforced Conference last year.

PVL president Ricky Palou has expressed the league’s openness to expanding to 12 teams, provided that the new squad is committed for the long term.
