Aug. 23 (UPI) — A’ja Wilson displayed her phenomenal scoring ability as she tied the WNBA’s single-game scoring record with an impressive 53 points in the Las Vegas Aces’ triumph over the Atlanta Dream. However, according to her teammates, Wilson is just scratching the surface of her true potential.
Wilson’s remarkable performance included making 16 of 23 shots, including a single 3-pointer, during the 112-100 win at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta. In addition to her scoring prowess, the seasoned center contributed seven rebounds and four blocks in 33 minutes and 18 seconds of playtime.
By achieving this feat, Wilson joins an elite group of players who have scored at least 50 points in a single WNBA game. Her 53 points tie the record set by Liz Cambage in 2018, with Riquna Williams also scoring 51 points in 2013 for the Tulsa Shock.
“She’s truly extraordinary,” remarked Aces guard Kelsey Plum when asked about Wilson.
