AG’s Crackdown Targets Drug and Weapons Trafficking in Vibrant Harbor Area

Officials announced on Monday that over 25 suspects have been apprehended, 30 weapons have been confiscated, and quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and PCP have been seized in a three-month investigation targeting street gangs in the Harbor area of Los Angeles County. The investigation, named “Operation Safe Harbor,” involved multiple agencies and the individuals arrested have been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for potential felony charges.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated, “Today, we are sending a strong message that organized criminal enterprises cannot stand up to the power of good law enforcement work.” He further added, “Today, we’ve removed dangerous drugs and weapons from our streets, ensuring the safety of the people of Los Angeles. I extend my gratitude to our DOJ agents and law enforcement partners for their dedicated efforts in this case, making California a safer place. Now, families in Los Angeles can have greater peace of mind.”

The investigation concluded on June 1 with a large-scale operation on Thursday, where agents executed seven search warrants, resulting in 10 felony arrests. They recovered 14 firearms, including two ghost guns and one short-barreled rifle, seized $4,000 in cash, and intercepted various amounts of narcotics. Additionally, two stolen vehicles were also recovered. The investigation also led to further arrests and investigations related to the criminal enterprise in various communities across California.

Overall, the investigation resulted in a total of 27 arrests, confiscation of 30 firearms, and the seizure of illegal narcotics, including 72,115 fentanyl pills, 1.7 pounds of fentanyl powder, 143 pounds of methamphetamine, 4.7 pounds of heroin, 1.9 pounds of cocaine, 1.7 pounds of PCP, and $36,800 in cash.
