MANILA, Philippines — Agatha Wong fell short of winning a medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. In the women’s Taijiquan and Taijijian final, Wong finished fourth with a combined score of 19.456 points, unable to replicate her bronze medal performance at the 2018 Asiad in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In the taijiquan event, Wong secured seventh place with a score of 9.72. However, she performed better in the taijijian, earning 9.736 points and placing within the top three. Nevertheless, Wong’s score wasn’t enough for her to reach the podium.

The tournament was dominated by China’s Tong Xin, who clinched the gold with 19.696 points. Basma Lackhar of Brunei took home the silver with 19.502 points, while Hong Kong’s Chen Suijin rounded out the top three with 19.476 points.

Meanwhile, in the men’s changquan final, Sandrex Gainsan finished last among 14 participants with a score of 8,763 points. The gold medal went to Sun Peiyuan of China with a score of 9.84 points.

Wong had previously won gold in the merged taijiquan and taijiquan event at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia. She also has an impressive record in the SEA Games since 2017, with five gold medals and two runner-up finishes.
