In the San Francisco Bay Area, tech workers facing skyrocketing rents are choosing to live in inexpensive “sleeping pods” costing $700 per month. These pods are 4-foot-tall, semi-open boxes that can accommodate a single twin mattress, and they provide shared bathrooms and common areas.
Instead of renting expensive studio apartments in downtown San Francisco for around $3,000 per month, employees of Silicon Valley startups are opting for the more affordable sleeping pods.
Christian Lewis, the founder of Spellcraft AI Founder, moved to the Bay Area from Illinois to grow his AI company. He expressed satisfaction with his new and cozy living space, stating, “The pod is the size of a twin bed, so it’s not very large but it gets the job done. You just need a place to sleep.”
Lewis shared images of the pod and the communal areas in the Mint Plaza facility on social media.
