Adam Driver to Make Surprise Appearance at Venice Film Festival Amid Hollywood Strikes

The Venice Film Festival caused quite a stir last year with Florence Pugh’s brief appearance and the underlying tension with director Olivia Wilde. This year, Adam Driver will follow suit by attending the festival for a short period without even spending the night. The acclaimed actor has agreed to promote his movie Ferrari, but there is a concern about violating the actors and writers strikes, even though the film has received an exemption. To avoid any controversy, Driver will fly from Paris to Venice in the morning, walk the red carpet in the late afternoon, and return to Paris the same day. The schedule for promotional interviews or a press conference is still uncertain. However, sources indicate that Driver might give a speech in support of the strikes and wear a strike-supporting t-shirt beneath his tuxedo, causing Penelope Cruz, a long-time Chanel ambassador, to reconsider her outfit choices. Hollywood is cautious about not upsetting the strikers, and the film and TV industry has come to a halt due to the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). The movie Ferrari, produced by independent company Neon, and Priscilla, which was made in Canada, can attend the festival without violating the strikes. However, other stars like Bradley Cooper and the cast of Challengers have no choice but to abstain. Priscilla Presley, on whose memoir the film is based, is expected to be present at the premiere. Emma Stone and the rest of the cast of the film Poor Things will not be attending, even though the movie will be premiered. Ferrari, directed by Michael Man, delves into three tumultuous months in the life of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the iconic car company. With financial troubles, the death of his son, and a child with his mistress, Enzo faces numerous challenges. Last year, Florence Pugh skipped the press conference and photo call for Don’t Worry Darling, reportedly due to a falling out between her and director Olivia Wilde over Wilde’s romantic involvement with Harry Styles. Pugh criticized the marketing of the film, especially the focus on explicit love scenes, and may have held Wilde accountable. Their tension was evident on the red carpet as they arrived separately and avoided interaction. Pugh left immediately after the screening and did not attend any cast events, as she was occupied filming Dune 2 in Budapest at the time.
